I had to drive my mom to the doctors office today. When I got to her house the news was on and they were talking about hurricane Dean. I really wasn’t paying attention because I don’t really care about hurricanes or the weather. But then they switched over to the unlucky guy that has to stand in the middle of the storm and try to report on it.
WHY!?
Why does this guy have to stand in the middle of a fucking storm for us to know it’s bad? Most of us can tell by the damn satallite pictures that look like a girl had her period all over the tv screen, red EVERYWHERE. This guy reminded me of Heather Holloway from the end of the movie Thank You For Smoking.
It’s not just the weather that this happens with, it’s everything.
- A guy is arrested and they need to have a guy standing in front of the jail.
- Story on planes? They do it at the airport.
- School shooting? Let’s send someone to stand right in front of the school sign.
Just sit behind a desk and tell me about the story damnit. I don’t want to see you struggling to stand up in 900 mph winds. I don’t want to see some douche bag on his cell phone waving to his family behind you. Just give me the news.

Good Call, I always wondered that myself. One day I’d like to see one of those reporters thrown like 20 feet by the wind. Now that would be entertaining.
I think the whole “stand in a hurricane” bit is just the “initiation part” of joining a news team…it’s either that or shower naked with the 45-year old anchors, and be forced to shave their balls…I’ll take the hurricane thanks.
Brock - I think that’s the appeal in all of that…I’m sure the anchor people secretly take bets to see if the “on the scene” reporter falls over or not…
Romi - I’d rather be jobless and homeless than do either of those…
i am thinking they offer them “bonus pay” and then just pray that the hurricane takes them to Oz or something. Sucks when the reporter survives. you know that dude is PISSED!
i half fucking agree with you and half think you’re fucking wrong. unless being at the fucking scene adds something to the story skip it - of course if you want to talk to people who might have seen whatever it is that happened you kind of need to go to where the news is - fires, crash sites, etc. reporters do need to go to find out what the fuck happened. the weather thing is just stupid though.
